Gibson Flying V-Inspired Guitar Pin
Several years ago, at a concert, I got the idea of making a series of brooches based on guitars. I love to work in acrylic and electric guitars seemed the perfect models for some acrylic brooches. This mixed media brooch is one of a series based on iconic electric guitars -- it is modeled after the Gibson Flying V.
The brooch is made of laminated, hand-cut and polished acrylic in black and turquoise blue. Its features are represented by patterned sterling silver, sterling rivets, black freshwater pearls, and vintage watch crowns.
This brooch started out as 3 sheets of plastic. I laminate them, cut the shape out by hand with a jeweler's saw fitted with a spiral blade, belt sand, hand file and polish and refine the shape and then painstakingly add the details using various materials. Each brooch takes about 8 hours from start to finish.
This brooch is approximately 4" in total length and approximately 1 5/8" at its widest point. It fastens with two tack pins. This will be a great pin for your jacket or heavy sweater, not your delicate silk blouse.
