About KDDI grew up in Central New York, where I still live, and have always been drawn to art. I have a restless desire to create, and in jewelry and metal work, I have found the means to express that desire.
I have studied Metals for Jewelry at Utica’s Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute, where I also teach. I love teaching -- helping others with their process is a great way to stimulate my own creativity. Jewelry is a fun medium -- it is ornament, it is decoration, it is often a means of self-expression for the wearer and for the maker. It is also an engineering problem -- I often tell my students that making metal jewelry is a sometimes loud, often dirty, and frequently dangerous process that results in a product designed to be as far removed from noise, dirt and danger as can be. The very paradox of it is kind of addicting. Kissing Dog Designs jewelry is influenced by Industrial, Mod, mid-century Modern and Bakelite era designs. It is my goal to create unique, wearable designs that communicate the joy I feel at being able to do something I love for a living . Lisa Oristian |
